My name is Sarah Marjorey, and I come from the beautiful nation of Uganda, the Pearl of Africa. In the fall of September 2019, under the Chinese government scholarship, I commenced my academic career to pursue a Doctoral degree using English to study Global Communication and Governance at the Communications University of China. China has availed several scholarship opportunities for many African students and has helped further their studies and development in China. I am honored to be among the few chosen from Uganda to study in China as an international student. As a Ugandan youth residing in China, I hold the responsibility of introducing Uganda and Africa’s culture. In China, fashion has been a critical tool in introducing my African heritage. The curiosity Chinese friends showed about my cultural attire provided me with a positive way to showcase the unique beauty of my nation. Therefore, my interest in this work intensified, which resulted in my participation in the African Diaspora in China fashion show, where I placed in the top three.

我的名字叫莎拉·马乔里，来自有非洲明珠之称的美丽的乌干达。2019年9月，在中国政府奖学金的资助下，我开始了在中国的学习生活，在中国传媒大学用英文攻读全球传播与治理博士学位。中国为许多非洲学生提供了奖学金机会，以帮助他们在中国的学习和发展。我很荣幸被选中，成为能够来中国学习的留学生。作为来到中国的乌干达年轻人，我有责任介绍乌干达和非洲的文化。在中国，服饰一直是我介绍非洲传统文化的重点内容。中国朋友对我国的服饰文化表现出的好奇心，为我展示我们民族独特而美丽的服饰给予了很大的鼓舞。因此，我对这项工作的兴趣与日俱增，我参加了非洲在中国的时装展，并跻身前三名。

Since Uganda’s independence in 1962, Uganda and China have maintained good relations. China was one of the first nations to recognize the newly independent nation. In 1971, Uganda was one of 76 nations that voted in favor of Resolution 2758, restoring UN membership and full rights to the People’s Republic of China.

乌干达1962年独立以来，与中国一直保持良好的外交关系。中国是最早承认这个新独立国家的国家之一。1971年，乌干达是76个投票赞成第2758号决议的国家之一，该决议恢复了中华人民共和国的联合国成员资格和全部权利。

Over the past 60 years, the China- Uganda economic and trade relations have only deepened. In 2019, the relationship between Uganda and China was upgraded to the level of Comprehensive Cooperation Partnership with a Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Investment and Technical Cooperation (JCTEIT) as a bilateral framework of economic cooperation.

60年来，中乌经贸关系不断深化。2019年，乌中关系升级为全面合作伙伴关系，贸易、经济、投资和技术合作联合委员会（JCTEIT）作为双边经济合作框架。

In China, I have worked hard to learn about the Chinese culture and economy, especially the process of rural revitalization. I have visited some of China’s rural communities in Shanxi province, uplifted out of poverty. China’s Poverty Reduction Strategies and great achievements have inspired my publication titled: “China’s Poverty Reduction strategy as a practical model for African countries.” This publication focuses on strides toward poverty alleviation by application in communities and empowering the residents, “teaching a man to fish” instead of “giving him fish to eat,” a practice that has left a profound impact on me. I observed that the Chinese residents, with the support and guidance from the government, are now much more creative, skilled, and independently find the path of innovation and development to further develop their communities, to live a rich and stable life so that the country and society are harmonious, stable and prosperous.

我在中国努力学习中国文化，参与社会实践，尤其是了解农村振兴的过程。我访问了山西省一些摆脱贫困的农村社区。中国的减贫战略和伟大成就启发了我出版了一本名为《中国减贫战略作为非洲国家的实践模式》的出版物。本书着重于通过社区应用和赋予居民权力，反映在扶贫方面取得的进展，“教人钓鱼”（授之以渔）而不是“给人鱼吃”（授人以鱼）的作法给了我极深的印象和启示。我观察到，在政府的支持和引导下，中国居民现在更有创造力、更有技能，并且能够独立地找到创新发展的路径，过上富裕稳定的生活，使国家与社会和谐稳定，欣欣向荣。

I am now more convinced that young Ugandan youth like myself have the best opportunity to utilize the growing friendly relations with China and have gained knowledge and insights from China. The more knowledge, the greater your power. In Beijing, I have been fortunate to acquire knowledge and technical skills in my field of study and expand my social and professional network.

我现在更加相信，像我这样的乌干达青年赶上了我国与中国日益增长的良好关系的最佳机会，从中国获得了很好的知识和见解；知识越多，力量越大。在北京我有幸获得了我所学领域的知识和技术技能，并拓展了我的社交和专业网络。

China’s “Belt and Road” initiative has brought a lot of development projects to Africa; amongst them are business and educational opportunities. Uganda benefits deeply from these relations through the development of infrastructure and job creation. The “Belt and Road” initiative has become the best public product to promote cooperation between Africa and China and a bright sunny future.

中国的“一带一路”倡议为非洲带来了许多发展项目；其中包括商业和教育机会。乌干达通过发展基础设施和创造就业机会，受益特别大。“一带一路”倡议已成为促进非洲与中国合作的最好的公共产品和通向美好未来的阳光大道。

As an African youth, studying in China has influenced me to find and share ways on how China’s smart AI technology and agricultural techniques may be adjusted to apply to different African countries. Most African countries, including Uganda, produce a lot of agricultural products. These agricultural industries are capable of increasing the volume of exports to China, such as tea, coffee, cotton, skin and hides, fish, and fruits. Africa is rich with natural resources and innovative, forward-thinking people. China- Africa relations have a long history, and the world of China-Africa relations is vast.

作为一名非洲青年，在中国的学习让我分享了中国人工智能技术和农业技术如何调整以适用于不同非洲国家的方法。包括乌干达在内的大多数非洲国家都生产大量农产品，这些农业产业能够增加对中国的出口量，如茶叶、咖啡、棉花、皮革、鱼类和水果。非洲拥有丰富的自然资源和创新、有远见的人民。中非友好源远流长，中非合作天地广阔。

As the “Belt and Road” initiative influences intensify, continuously making new achievements, many African countries like Uganda continue to be encouraged by China’s rapid economic growth. They are now committed to making Africa a self-sustaining developed continent with continuous economic and social development. I believe that we youth play a significant role in that vision, and we will indeed create a better future.

随着“一带一路”倡议影响力的增强，不断取得新的成就，乌干达等许多非洲国家持续受到中国经济快速增长的鼓舞。他们现在致力于使非洲成为一个经济和社会不断发展的发达的大陆。我相信，我们青年在这一愿景中发挥着重要作用，我们一定会开创更美好的未来。
