The youth’s important role in exchanges and cooperation between China and the Caribbean

作为一个加勒比海华人后裔，我在中国北京的生活非常有意义。通过不断地学习、成长，让我重新发现我自己，我感到了许多令人兴奋的挑战和机会。

自从离开我的祖国巴巴多斯，回到我祖先的故乡中国，这里的一切都让我感到新奇。北京是一个不断发展的、多元文化的城市，是全球商业、创造力和创新中心之一。我也很高兴地发现，中国拥有一个欣欣向荣的加勒比共同体。正如预期的那样，巴巴多斯境内的许多人以及加勒比散居者在这里都很受欢迎。我发现加勒比地区的优秀人才库也在中国不断增长。这让我感到充满了力量，特别兴奋。

As a person of Caribbean Chinese descent, my life in Beijing, China, has been very precious. Through continuous learning and growth, I have rediscovered myself. I feel excited by these challenges and opportunities. 

Since leaving my homeland, Barbados, and coming to the home of my ancestors, China, everything has been new to me. Beijing is an ever-evolving and multi-cultural city,  one of the global centers of commerce, creativity, and innovation. To my pleasure, I discovered that China has a thriving Caribbean community. As expected, many persons within the Barbadian and Caribbean Diaspora here are very welcoming. I have noticed the talent pool of outstanding persons from across the Caribbean region is also steadily growing in China. This makes me feel powerful and happy. 

2016年夏天，作为一名旅游专业硕士学生来到中国北京，我有幸参加了许多不同的活动。从在北京英联邦协会慈善晚会当志愿者，到成为2017年全球外交官之夜的主持人。我还跟一家中国旅游规划和开发公司合作。这让我能够访问中国的许多地区，更好地了解这个幅员辽阔的国家和人民，深厚的文化和丰富的旅游资源。2018年2月，我有幸成为巴巴多斯驻北京大使馆首位实习生。在这个职位上，我负责一个旅游发展研究项目。我的希望是这个项目将有助于巴巴多斯旅游经济战略方向的实现，并为我的小岛带来更明媚的阳光。

Arriving in Beijing, China summer of 2016 as a Tourism Masters student, I have since been privileged to participate in many different activities. From volunteering at the Commonwealth Society of Beijing Charity Gala to becoming a host for the 2017 Global Diplomats' Night. I also worked with a local tourism planning and developing company. This allowed me to visit many areas within China and better understand this vast country,  people, profound culture, and rich tourism resources. In February 2018, I had the honor of becoming the first-ever intern at the Barbados Embassy in Beijing. In this role, I was charged with working on a tourism development research project. It is my hope that this project will help with the strategic direction for Barbados' tourism economy and bring a higher level of exposure to my little island in the sun.

在中国学习、工作的经历让我逐渐了解了真实的中国，和中国人民生活在一起，才能真正理解中华文化的源远流长，博大精深。所以，我鼓励更多的巴巴多斯人来中国参观、学习和工作。

在中国获得的经验是很宝贵的。你不仅会学到中国人的观点和文化，而且会接触到来自不同国家的人。这能帮你了解一个古老而欣欣向荣的大国。巴巴多斯和加勒比地区是一个历史文化丰富、人民爱好和平的国家和地区，我自豪地向世界展示了这一点。我相信中国会进一步帮助巴巴多斯的发展。来自巴巴多斯及加勒比地区的年轻人将在中国与加勒比的友好交往、合作中发挥重要的作用。

Studying and working in China has helped me understand the real China. Living with the Chinese people is the only way to truly understand the long history and richness of Chinese culture. Therefore, I encourage more Barbadians to visit, study and work here. 

The experiences gained in China are invaluable. You will not only be exposed to the Chinese perspective and culture but also learn from many other persons from different countries here, aiding in understanding this ancient and prosperous country. Barbados and the Caribbean is a country and region filled with a rich melting pot of diverse histories, people, and cultures, which I am proud to showcase to the world. I believe that China can further aid Barbados in its development. Young people from Barbados and the Caribbean play an important role in the friendly exchanges and cooperation between China and the Caribbean.

 巴巴多斯和中国1977年5月30日正式建立外交关系。几十年来，中国与巴巴多斯的贸易关系不断加强与发展。双边贸易和战略合作不断扩大。2021年7月13日，两国领导人重申致力于共同发展，建设人人共享的可持续社会。作为一名具有华裔血统的巴巴多斯青年，我非常自豪地目睹了这一交流，并继续为这两个我称之为家的伟大国家的合作、发展作出贡献。

Barbados and China formally established diplomatic relations on May 30th, 1977. Chinese-Barbadian trade relations have intensified over the decades and continue to grow, expanding both in bilateral trade and strategic cooperation. The two countries continue to express their commitment to each other. On July 13th, 2021, the two heads of state reiterated their commitment to mutual development and building a sustainable society for all. As a Barbadian youth of Chinese descent, I felt very proud to witness this exchange and eagerly continue to contribute to the development of these two great nations I call home.
