我来自美丽的苏里南，我的名字叫安妮娅·伊曼纽尔，更出名的名字是安妮娅。我目前是北京语言文化大学的学士学生，在过去三年中一直在北京学习和生活。

1976年5月28日，中华人民共和国和苏里南共和国正式建立了外交关系。苏里南是最早与中国建立关系的加勒比国家之一。1977年5月，中华人民共和国在苏里南帕拉马里博开设大使馆，苏里南共和国也于1998年1月在北京开设了大使馆。苏里南是一个拥有多种文化的国家，人口来自世界各地。由于苏里南华人人口众多，所以我从很小的时候就开始接触到中国文化，这些华人主要是19世纪最早移民到加勒比海的契约工人的后裔，我通过在加勒比上高中的历史课本了解了中国的一些历史和文化，产生了极大的兴趣，促使我决定来中国学习。

My name is Annenia Emanuels, better known as Nia, I come from Suriname, and I've been in China since August 2018. I am currently a bachelor student at Beijing Language and Culture University and have been studying in Beijing for the past three years. The People's Republic of China and the Republic of Suriname formally established diplomatic relations on May 28th, 1976. Suriname is one of the first Caribbean countries to establish ties with China. In May 1977, the PRC opened its embassy in Paramaribo, Suriname. The Republic of Suriname reciprocated by opening its Beijing embassy in January of 1998. Suriname is a country of many cultures and people from all over the world. I got introduced to the Chinese culture from a very young age due to the large population of Chinese Surinamese, mainly descendants of the earliest 19th-century indentured workers who migrated to the Caribbean in Suriname. Learning about the history of these people through my Caribbean high school history classes inspired my decision to come to China for my bachelor's studies. 

作为北京语言大学的一名学生，我有幸参加了学校组织的很多丰富多彩的活动。在这些活动中，我学到了很多关于中国文化和生活方式以及社会知识。比如互相帮助、互相学习，是中国人一个很好的习惯，不仅是为了个人的成长，也是为了家庭和国家的成长，这是中国文化的一部分，这样美好的文化传统强烈地影响了我的心态。我们不但要致力于自我发展，还要把自我发展和别人的发展、国家的发展联系起来。共建“一带一路”倡议就包含着这个思想理念。这是我来到中国后在思想上的重要收获。

As a student of Beijing Language and Culture University, I was fortunate to participate in a lot of different activities organized by the university. During these activities, I've learned so much about Chinese culture and lifestyle. For example, helping and learning from one another is a good habit of Chinese people. It is not only for personal growth but also towards the growth of family and country. This beautiful cultural tradition has strongly influenced my mindset. To work towards the development of self is one thing, but to allow that self-development to impact nations is another. This core idea is embodied in “the one belt and one road initiative”, an important lesson I learned after arriving in China.

中国和苏里南的关系始于第一批中国人来到苏里南。第一批中国人来到苏里南始于1853年。在19世纪，一些中国人为了更好的生活来到苏里南，并在种植园当合同工。他们现在在苏里南的贸易中发挥着重要的作用。虽然他们来自遥远的地方，但他们保留了许多自己的文化，从而为苏里南丰富的社会文化做出了贡献。我很自豪地告诉大家，苏里南现任驻中华人民共和国大使就是中国后裔。我非常感谢有机会来中国，不仅是学习，也帮助促进中国和苏里南之间的友好关系做了许多工作。

The relationship between China and Suriname started since the arrival of the first Chinese to Suriname. The arrival of the first Chinese people to Suriname dates from 1853. In the 19th century, the Chinese people came to Suriname for a better life and to work as contract workers on the plantations. They now play an essential role in the trade of Suriname. Although they come from far away, they have retained much of their own culture and thus contribute to the rich cultural society of Suriname. I am proud to share that the current Ambassador of Suriname to the People’s Republic of China is of Chinese descent. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to come to China to study and help promote a friendly relationship between China and Suriname. 

三年来，“一带一路”倡议让我明白了为什么中国是世界上增长最快的经济体之一。共建“一带一路”，构建人类命运共同体，符合各国发展的需要，代表了世界发展的方向。

作为一个苏里南的年轻一代和来华留学生，我热爱祖国苏里南，我想学习“一带一路”倡议包含着的共同发展进步的思想理念，这样做有助于改善和促进我国经济的增长。

Over the past three years, “the one belt and one road initiative” have helped me better understand why China has one of the leading economies in the world. Building a community with a shared future for mankind is in line with the needs of all countries and represents the direction of world development.

As a youth and a representative of my beloved country Suriname, I want to learn from “the belt and road initiative” and, in doing so, help improve and stimulate the growth of my country's economy. 

共建“一带一路”给了苏里南青年在华与在苏里南创造了独特的机会,可以充分利用两国深厚的友好基础和历史文化，为两国的友好交流发挥作用，包括年轻的商人、企业家及苏里南社会各领域的活跃成员。值得注意的是,两国共建 “一带一路”合作好处在2017年之前就已经全面开始。我们将继续从文化多样性中获益，从实现人类命运共同体的奋斗中施展才华。我为有机会参与“一带一路”的新发展感到兴奋。就像19世纪的年轻商人们一样，我也将继续为我国人民和全球社会建立一个更加公平的社会而努力。

The formation of “the one belt and one road” has provided Surinamese youth in China and Suriname a unique opportunity to capitalize on the deep foundation of friendship, history, and culture between the two countries, including young merchants, entrepreneurs, and active members of the Surinamese society. Notably, “the one belt and one road initiative” benefits between the two countries have been in full effect even before 2017. We continue to reap the benefits of cultural diversity for a shared future for all mankind.  I continue to be excited that I have the opportunity to participate in the new version of the belt and road.  Like the young merchants in the 19th century, so will I continue to work towards a more equitable society for my people and the global community.
